Busy Much?

Sometimes I forget things. Sometimes these things get forgotten for a long, long time. Today, I remembered that I have a blog. Why did I remember? Well, I was searching for background images of pink-unicorns for my snackattack.ca website and I was reminded of my good friend's blog called "Pink Unicorn Rainbow". This made me in turn, realize that I too had a blog, one I hadn't posted in, in a long long long time.

I promise you, I'm going to improve. I promise ME I'm going to improve. We'll talk, you and I. Soon.

Rockie

Getting a dog was a big decision for me. It wasn't that I didn't want a dog, it wasn't about how it would change my life, it was about mortality and attachment. I only remember having one dog when I was a child. His name was "Burbon" (Named by my father, back when he drank :) seriously.) and I remember clearly the day I came home and he wasn't there anymore. My mom told me that he had to be put down because he was sick. I was crushed. I still feel crushed when I think about it, I never got to say "Goodbye.".

This weekend I had a friend from out of town over. Him, I, and another friend we're doing some errands and Jess was nice enough to take Rockie to the park for a walk, accompanied by our friend Becky. I almost didn't get a chance to say "Goodbye." to Rockie either.

Every day Rockie and I travel to Hawrelak park and go for a walk that normally takes around an hour. We do the same loop and he chases a lot of the same dogs. He has a good time getting tired out. On this particular day though, he did something I'd never seen him do before and I never, ever want to see in my life. Rockie, for some reason decided that he was going to run down to the river and in doing so fell through the weak, spring ice. Jess and Becky didn't see Rockie crash through the ice, but someone else did. I couldn't imagine the panic of watching that. Somehow, Rockie... who's never swam in his life got himself out and ran back up to Jess, amazing the power of will and instinct.

This really rang home how fast things can change, how fast Rockie could be taken from us, and it's quite upsetting just to think what could have happened. I guess this has put into perspective how little time we could all have and how we should really get on living.

That's it, that's all.

Thanks, you jackasses.

There comes a time in life when you say "Screw this" and have to make a change. No, no don't worry. I'm not ditching my fiancé and moving to Milan to peruse a life in designer shoe retail. I'm talking about going back to school to upgrade my education. I figured that, as my current wage wasn't really increasing... and my current attitude towards how awesome my work life is, isn't getting any better... I might want to change something before I'm married with kids and needing to support a family. Good choice, albeit a little late in the life process.

While it would have served me better to have a plan upon my exiting high school, I didn't. So the pre-requisits for post secondary education weren't really a concern at the time. Now I'm starting to see how this hurt me in the long run as I apply to get into Engineering. It's not like these courses are hard. I mean, I can get through Chem30 and Math31 without breaking a sweat. But it's the transference of courses that really pisses me off. Really, this only pertains to Math31, as I have no idea about Chem30, as I never took it in High School... so whatever.

The point of this bitching is to address the fact that although I have a pretty decent calculus course from NAIT, and have applied that knowledge of calculus through the entire course, Macewan doesn't seem to accept this idea and wants me to take the whole bloody Math31 course. Really. REALLY? This is the most re-dog-dam-diculous thing I have heard in a long time. So, They're going to squeeze another 350$ out of me for this course and then they'll think about letting me in. Thanks. Thanks a lot your jackasses.

This coupled with the fact that the advisor decided that it really wasn't necessary to call me back when she said she would. Waste of my time. Anyhow, I hope you didn't expect any entertainment of this post. I really hope you didn't.

Time Flies when you're living

I was reading a blog today and said "Man, I should have a blog."... well what the hell. I do have a blog, I just forget about it from time to time. Why you ask? Well let me tell you some new developments in my life since I went on that rant back in October.

First and foremost, I'm getting Married. Yep, you heard it MARRIED. This puts pressure on me to get things done in my life, things that I would have otherwise shrugged off. I'm serious here, I have no reason to get all these things done all at once, seems to complicated :P

Additionally, I have started a company, a company called "Snack Attack". This company delivers snacks all through the night (9pm to 4:30am) anywhere in the city of Edmonton. As such, it's pretty tiring. I have to drive a fair amount as well, this makes working my "real" (see: 9 to 5) job harder than ever. Check it out at SnackAttack.ca.

I also have a dog. I picked him up at the end of October and we've been having a great time ever since. He recently decided that my little brother's Ipod was edible though... and so right now I have to go order a new screen for him, while it's on my mind. ... there we go. $32.90 Now I just have to repair it. Joy. Anyhow, he's a lab X border-collie and he's a heck of a runner. So he's been keeping me busy. He's trying at times, but really he's a good dog and I love having him around.

Anyhow, I'm seriously looking to do more blogging in the near future. As the summer rolls around and the Westy comes out of storage, I'm really looking forward to the coming months. Oh, and the married thing is pretty cool too. :)

The modern world can kiss my ass

Yes, that's what I'm opening with. I realize that I haven't written in a long long while. It's because I have been busy, really busy, stupidly busy and the times when I haven't been busy I've been in the mountains hiding from the interconnected lifestyle that is the modern world.

I have 2 cell phones, 6 email accounts, 3 chatting services and an average of 25 text messages that come in daily. No, you haven't seen me online in a while, that's because I'm no longer logging in to MSN, gtalk, ICQ, facebook chat etc etc. Guess what? None of these things interest me at all. If I wanted to talk to you, or you wanted to talk to me, we'll go for tea. But if you send one !@%^ing text message I'm probably going to snap.

Big business can kiss my ass too. I've had it with the muscle of the huge shops squashing everything in their way. Wal-mart is the obvious target but Apple, Future-shop, Safe-way, Save-On, Sobeys, you're on my radar. There was a time, when we were all cheering for Apple, cheering for them to take down Microsoft as the only "choice" in the PC market. Well, that has happened and now where are we? We've given them too much support, now they are the biggest music distributor on the planet. Future-Shop and Best Buy... A) You're the same store. B) I have no idea where any other electronics retailer is, but I know where 8 future shops are. C) You're selling musical instruments now? You didn't have enough money pushing the smaller electronics stores out of the picture, you need music shops now too? There was a time when Wal-mart's low prices were helping create competition, now they've just wiped out all competition. The places we buy our food are an endless abyss of "made in china". That bag of baby carrots you're eating? It says made in China on the back. That pepper your looking at? Guatemala. Meanwhile we bitch about our local farmers getting hand outs from the government.

And don't even get me started on Facebook.

The time I enjoy most of all in life is when I am out of cell range. The time I enjoy most in life is when email piles up in my inbox un-read and un-answered. The time I enjoy most in my life is a time that my watch barely ever sees, that makes me grumpy, and that's why the modern world can kiss my ass.
